Investor Seminar the O&M of Kampot Tourism Port

On August 17th, 2023, the Ministry of Economy and Finance, in cooperation with the Ministry of Public Works and Transport and the Ministry of Tourism, held an Investor Seminar on “The Operations and Maintenance (O&M) of Kampot Tourism Port through Public-Private Partnerships,” chaired by H.E. OM Macthearith, Director General of the General Department of Public-Private Partnerships of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, at the Hyatt Regency Phnom Penh Hotel.
The seminar was attended by approximately 80 participants in person and virtually, including representatives from relevant local, regional, and international ports, and tourism ferry operators, as well as development partners, financial institutions, advisory companies, law firms, and other relevant players from the private sector.
The objective of this investor seminar is the dissemination of detailed information regarding the Kampot Tourism Port, market opportunities, operational and technical requirements, bidder prerequisites, and the expected project timeline. This offered a significant opportunity for private sector operators to collaborate with the Government of the Kingdom of Cambodia (GKC) in investing in and operating the newly built project. Additionally, the GKC aims to complete preparation for the final Feasibility Study Report for the project to proceed with procuring private partners for the implementation of operations and maintenance through the public-private partnership mechanism in the near future.
The participants have enthusiastically supported and shown great interest in this project, actively participating in inquiries, and providing valuable input for the development of this project.
Taking this opportunity, H.E. OM Macthearith expressed that the Kampot Tourism Port Project will play an important role in the development of tourism in the coastal provinces of Kampot and Kep, as well as maritime tourism in Cambodia. This is achieved by connecting Kampot with Koh Tral (Phu Quoc), Vietnam, as well as other islands in the region. His Excellency encouraged the private sector to participate in the procurement process of private partners.
In conclusion, H.E. OM Macthearith expressed appreciation for the representatives from the Ministry of Public Works and Transport and the Ministry of Tourism for their cooperation in implementing the Kampot Tourism Port Project through the public-private partnership mechanism, and all distinguished guests who took their valuable time to participate in this seminar.
