Training Workshop on “UK-Cambodia Partnership for Green Infrastructure: Infrastructure and Projects Authority Workshops on Effective Project Development, Funding and Financing”

On the 22nd to 26th January, 2024 at Hyatt Regency Phnom Penh Hotel, the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) in cooperation with the UK Infrastructure and Projects Authority (IPA)  organized a capacity building workshop on “UK-Cambodia Partnership for Green Infrastructure: Infrastructure and Projects Authority Workshops on Effective Project Development, Funding and Financing”, which was presided over by H.E. Meas Soksensan, Secretary of State of the MEF, on behalf of H.E. Akka Pundit Sopheacha Aun Pornmoniroth, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Economy and Finance and H.E. Dominic Williams, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Kingdom to the Kingdom of Cambodia. The workshop was participated by representatives from relevant line ministries of the Government of the Kingdom of Cambodia (GKC) involved in the implementation of PPP projects, as well as representatives of the British Embassy in Cambodia.

The object of this workshop is to share, disseminate and develop the capacity as well as raise awareness of the PPP project cycle, by focusing on the development of green infrastructure projects and the Green SEZ project through the PPP mechanism, citing case studies based on the experience of the aforementioned project, in order to continue building a strong foundation to support the effective and efficient development and implementation of PPP projects in the Kingdom of Cambodia. 

In addition, HE Secretary of State also highlighted that this capacity building workshop is part of the Green Infrastructure Project Development Program and the experiences learnt from pilot project (Green SEZ) with technical assistance of the British Embassy in Cambodia under IPA Program, relevant to skills and knowledge on PPP mechanism. This training work will be held align with the signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between MEF, Cambodia and the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

Finally, HE Secretary of State expressed his deep gratitude to the participants as well as the opportunity to discuss and explore in depth the topics of each curriculum. Additionally, MEF will continue to coordinate with IPA and UK Embassy for further cooperation to support the institutional capacity development program and human resource for the PPP mechanism in Cambodia.
